Skinny Pelembe
Skinny Pelembe’s music is a shapeshifting collage of indie rock, dub, electronic, psych and pop – all of it not-so-lightly dusted with beats that sound like they could’ve been dug out of a crate. He pulls as much from Madlib’s mad scientist hooks as he does from King Krule’s alien croon and Fela Kuti’s fiery grooves. The Johannesburg-born, Doncaster-raised artist and producer has honed his own truly unique delivery. Impossible-to-pigeonhole he was aptly first championed by the ever-eclectic Gilles Peterson through his Future Bubblers program.
Tipped by The Guardian, Line of Best Fit, ID and Brooklyn Vegan. His first 3 singles were all picked for BBC 6 Music’s A-List. On BBC Radio 1 he’s been championed by Huw Stephens and performed a live. set from Reeperbahn festival. He’s recorded live sessions for COLORS, The Vinyl Factory, Worldwide FM and delighted audiences at Festivals and on headline tours with his dynamic live show.
